Nepal

Nature has provided everything

I didn’t know quite what to expect before visiting Nepal. It was place that I had never taken the time to learn much about. Before going, I decided I/d attempt to educate myself a little bit about Nepal. I read a book on the Maoist and the political turmoil that has played a major role in the modern history of Nepal.

What I can say is that reading The Bullet and the Ballot Box started to provide a basic understanding of what this country has been through.

Modern day Nepal is an economically poor country. What it lacks in economics, it makes up for in culture, people and nature. It’s not a place for everyone but it is a place I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. If you go with an open mind and don’t expect 5-star luxury, you can come away with an experience that will last a lifetime.

We went to Nepal with open minds and not much in the way of expectations. In the weeks leading up to our trip, we heard from everyone we talked to that Kathmandu was a place you only wanted to spend a couple of days. We were told it was a dirty and chaotic place, nothing special…we found that not to be entirely true.

Yes it is dusty. I’d suggest getting a mask to wear while you’re in Kathmandu. Also, be prepared with shoes / clothes / backpack which you aren’t afraid to collect a layer of dust and grime on. If you spend a couple of days in Kathmandu, it will happen. I’ll write a bit more about Kathmandu in a separate post as well as a bit more about Pokhara.

Pokhara was great for hiking but honestly it felt like it was more touristic and not as unique as Kathmandu. Pokhara was worth the trip for trekking but I’m glad we chose to spend more days in Kathmandu instead of adding additional non-trekking days in Pokhara.

Well that’s it for now…hit me up with any questions.

Peace!

Matt
